The Xinwu Coastal Botanical Garden, formerly the Yong'an Snow Forest Recreation Area, was closed for over 20 years due to poor management. However, far from being abandoned, this six-hectare windbreak forest transformed into a paradise for flora and fauna. After replanning and ecological restoration, the city government revitalized it in 2020 as Taoyuan's first coastal botanical garden, a new green space that blends nature and humanity.
Entering the forest classroom is to open the door to nature.
Xinwu Coastal Botanical Gardens was designed with a sustainable philosophy of low interference and no artificial lighting to avoid disturbing nocturnal animals. The first phase completed the entrance imagery and landscaped restrooms, providing basic visitor facilities. The second phase included an outdoor forest classroom, a picnic plaza, and a 1,000-meter ecological trail, making it a recommended destination for family outings and environmental education.
Biodiversity here is the pride of the coastal area.
Don't underestimate these six hectares of space; the park is home to over 250 species of plants and animals, including 12 endemics to Taiwan and five protected bird species. Mammals are also present, with squirrels, skunks, and others roaming freely here. The plant life is even more diverse, from bird lime tree to shell ginger, often used as rice dumpling leaves. The beauty of coastal flora is all here!

The location of Xinwu Coastal Botanical Garden is unique, with a private farm to the east, a coastal breakwater to the west, the Shezi River to the north, and Nanzhen to the south. This environment provides unique growth conditions for plants and allows visitors to stroll from the forest trail to the coastal scenery, experiencing the layers of natural transformation. The gentle breeze blows through the treetops, the sunshine falls on the tree shadows, and every step is healing.
The garden has four primary functions: education, conservation, research, and leisure. It will continue to develop into an ecological field that combines species conservation, academic research, and coastal plant display.
