In October 2025, the Taoyuan City Government officially announced that Yeh Shu-hua - member of K-pop supergroup (G)I-DLE and a native of Fugang, Yangmei, Taoyuan - as Taoyuan's Tourism Ambassador. This marks the first time Taoyuan has invited an international idol to promote the city's tourism, signaling an important milestone as Taoyuan's city branding steps onto the global stage.
A Local Star Returns
Yeh Shu-hua left home alone at 16 to pursue her dream in South Korea. As a member of (G)I-DLE, she rose to fame across Asia and expanded into European and North American markets, becoming a global pop icon with wide-reaching influence. Returning now as Taoyuan's local star, she personally visited signature local attractions including Daxi Old Street, Hengshan Calligraphy Art Center, and Xiao Wulai Sky Rope Bridge. Through her distinctive personal style, she transforms everyday Taoyuan scenes into emotionally rich, story-filled vistas - sparking worldwide fans' longing to visit and a surge in fan-led visits.
Taiwan's Aesthetic Links Taoyuan's Travel Corridor
In recent years, "Taiwan sensibility" has surged on social media, becoming a mainstream travel aesthetic for younger generations. It captures the unpolished ease of everyday life and the simple, nostalgic atmosphere found in street scenes. The first wave of released footage cleverly connects the Dalongmen Corridor, the Northern Cross-Island Highway scenery, and urban commercial districts - spanning the Japanese-era red-brick streetscape of Daxi Old Street, the serene light-and-shadow spaces of Hengshan Calligraphy Art Center, and the magnificent mountain views at Xiao Wulai Sky Rope Bridge. Seen through a "Shu-style perspective," Taoyuan's emotive charm opens up to travelers around the world.
Limited-Edition Photo Cards and Accommodation Deals Launch Together
In tandem with the ambassador endorsement campaign, the Taoyuan City Government is offering limited-edition photo cards. Each card features the ambassador's photos paired with Taoyuan attractions and includes a printed facsimile of her handwritten signature, available as limited gifts during the campaign. The first giveaway is jointly organized with local partners under Taoyuan Stay, with participating businesses rolling out dedicated accommodation deals to encourage visitors to stay an extra night and experience Taoyuan more deeply.
Upcoming Events Continue to Build Momentum
The Tourism Bureau stated that more travel videos and short-form clips - personally filmed during the ambassador's visits - will be released in stages. Large-scale events such as Taoyuan Halloween City and a New Year's Eve party will also take place, and visitors from around the world are welcome to visit Taoyuan and experience the city's charm firsthand.
