The 2026 Taoyuan Lantern Festival will open with great fanfare on February 25 at Hutoushan Innovation Hub and run through March 8, lasting 12 days. Under the theme "Pegasus Illuminates Taoyuan," the event brings together tech art, local culture, and the city's industrial strengths to create an annual spectacle of light and shadow for the Spring Festival and Lantern Festival season.
Taiwan's First Mechanical Metal Pegasus Main Lantern
On opening night, Taiwan's only mechanical metal Pegasus main lantern will make a stunning debut. Combining kinetic mechanics with professional music programming, it evokes the image of a Pegasus spreading its wings and leaping upward - symbolizing Taoyuan's momentum as it continues to move forward on the world stage. Diplomatic envoys and representatives stationed in Taiwan, along with distinguished guests from sister cities in Japan and South Korea, were present to witness the moment.
Three Signature Zones
Hutoushan Innovation Hub centers on the Pegasus main lantern, integrating AI voice translation, mechanical power systems, and AR interactive technology. A dedicated religious lantern zone also blends traditional faith with lantern artistry, offering blessings for visitors.
Nankan Creek Riverbank highlights pond ecology and sustainable development. Artists from Taiwan and Spain have created works using recycled materials, while soothing hippopotamus-themed installations dot the riverside, accompanying visitors on leisurely walks along the creek.
Sanmin Sports Park features a collaboration with the popular healing IP "Dtto friends" under the theme of a "Dtto friends" amusement park. The zone includes a childlike lantern area, as well as lantern sets specially created by the Department of Agriculture to share the joy of a bountiful harvest.
Nightly Performances
Throughout the event, a rich lineup of stage performances will be presented, spanning local music festivals, Indigenous music, Hakka music, and other multicultural showcases. A street parade is also planned, making the Taoyuan Lantern Festival more than a lantern-viewing event - it's a cross-disciplinary cultural carnival.
