Back Cihu and Jiaobanshan Residence to be Included in Taoyuan Firefly Spots in 2025
In 2024, the Back Cihu area will be closed for renovation and will not host night-time ecological observation activities. The area is being redesigned to create a better habitat for aquatic fireflies (Aquatica ficta) and will reopen at the end of the year. Similarly, Jiaobanshan Residence’s renovation project will also be completed by the end of 2024, which includes the establishment of a habitat for Pyrocoelia analis Fabricius. By this time in 2025, visitors to the North-Cross Island Highway in Taoyuan will have two new secret spots for firefly viewing!

Follow Firefly Viewing Guidelines to Protect Precious Natural Resources
Fireflies are delicate, and maintaining their habitats is challenging. We urge visitors to follow these guidelines:
  1. Wear long sleeves, long pants, and rain boots (or sneakers) to avoid insect and snake bites.
  2. Bring your own flashlight or headlamp, and cover the light source with red cellophane to reduce light pollution.
  3. Do your research before setting out to find the fireflies; some trails require good physical condition and vision.
Do not catch or touch the fireflies. Every visitor's effort to protect the natural environment helps ensure these precious little lights can thrive for generations to come.
