The 2024 Longgang Rice Noodle Festival kicks off with a traditional water-splashing blessing ceremony that showcases the unique cultural heritage of the Longgang area. This festival is a well-known city-brand event in Taoyuan that has received the "International Specialty Event" distinction from the MOTC Tourism Bureau in 2023, highlighting its international impact.
Water-Splashing Blessings and Festive Parade Kick Off the Event
The Water-Splashing Festival has been an important tradition in Southeast Asian countries like Thailand and Myanmar, full of enthusiasm and blessings. Symbolic cleansing water is splashed on people to wash away bad luck and pray for more happiness in the coming year. The first week of the Rice Noodle Festival will continue the Thai and Burmese water-splashing tradition, with esteemed monks from San Bao Temple leading the public in a Buddha bathing and prayer ceremony at the Yunnan Cultural Park (Water Dance Area). Following this, colorful performers, including the elephant foot drum team, peacocks, deer, and gong chimes, will pave the way as they lead the mayor and five esteemed monks in blessing the public with water. They will parade to the Zhongzheng New Village Cultural Park (Fire Dance Area) stage to announce the opening of the Rice Noodle Festival. In addition to Buddha bathing and tributes, esteemed monks will tie red blessing threads for the public at the opening event. There will be scheduled servings of tangyuan and exciting performances, aiming to bring a sense of stability and joy through this food and cultural event as everyone welcomes new opportunities in the New Year.
