2025 Taoyuan City Pearl Coast Sustainable Tourism Consensus Forum
In 2025, the Department of Tourism, Taoyuan City Government convened the Pearl Coast Specialty Industry Guidance Consensus Forum, bringing together local industries, academic institutions, and public-sector partners under a shared vision: Radiant Pearls, Leading Sustainability. The forum explored strategic directions for sustainable tourism development along the Pearl Coast.

Broad Participation, Strong Local Momentum
The forum attracted participants from 10 local associations and 21 businesses, spanning a wide range of sectors including agriculture, ecology, food and beverage, cycling, and honey. National Central University, Lunghwa University of Science and Technology, and relevant district offices also joined the discussions, demonstrating robust cross-domain collaboration among industry, government, and academia.

Expert Sharing to Map Out a Development Blueprint
Two experts were invited to share practical experience. The first used Keelung's Heping Island Geopark as a case study, highlighting how the site successfully transformed into an international green tourism destination and obtained ISO 20121 certification - offering the Pearl Coast concrete reference points, from emerging trends to market opportunities. The second, under the theme Creating Sustainable Value Through Experience Design, examined from the visitor's perspective how cultural depth, emotional connection, and sustainability values can be integrated to create distinctive and appealing travel experiences.

Workshops Spark Ideas Around Three Key Themes
The event featured breakout workshops centered on three themes: Challenges and Potential, Local Attractiveness, and Green Tourism Product Design. Participants focused on key Pearl Coast highlights such as fishing ports, stone tidal weirs, algal reefs, and leisure agricultural areas across the region. They explored the development potential of activities including recreational fishing, canoeing, and cycling tourism, and emphasized that itinerary design should balance entertainment with learning value. Participants also called for improved shuttle connections and better bicycle rental facilities to help put low-carbon travel into practice.

Attendees shared a common hope that, in the future, the Pearl Coast can overcome challenges such as climate change, transportation bottlenecks, and resource shortages, and be developed into the most visitor-friendly agri-experience destination within the city.

Supporting Businesses Toward Sustainable Upgrades
After the forum, the organizers held two business briefings on June 17 and 18, 2025 for the Pearl Coast Tourism Industry Service Capacity Upgrade Project. By introducing an expert guidance mechanism, the initiative aims to help businesses upgrade and transform, and to jointly build a Taoyuan City coastal tourism brand that combines cultural depth with sustainability value.
