Taoyuan’s Old Town Area Allows Eligible Historic Houses to Apply for Bed-and-Breakfast Licenses
On August 4, 2026, Taoyuan City Government announced that Taoyuan Old Town had been designated an "area of cultural or historical significance." Within this area, eligible heritage houses may apply to establish homestays under the Homestay Management Regulations, supporting the revitalization of old houses and more immersive lodging experiences.

The designated area centers on Jing Fu Gong Temple and the area surrounding Taoyuan Station. Applicants must either participate in the facade renovation project around Jing Fu Gong Temple or the old house revitalization subsidy program and receive city government approval, or own a building more than 40 years old that has distinctive architectural styles, continuity features, facade and gable decorations, or traditional materials and construction techniques, and that has passed review.

The city government encourages businesses to combine shop and homestay operations by incorporating coffee, dining, cultural and creative offerings, and handicrafts into lodging environments, enabling visitors to explore the old town's history, cuisine, and local life through an overnight stay. Related neighborhood improvements also cover the pedestrian environment around Jing Fu Gong Temple, building facade restoration, and school commuting walkways, alongside the Taoyuan Literature Museum, literary walking tours, and distinctive shops, enriching the old town's tourism offerings.

The designated area extends north to Sanmin Road, south to Jianguo Road, west to Minzu Road, and east along Chaoyang Street, Dongguo Street, Andong Street, and Chunri Road, with the centerlines of these roads forming its boundaries. The facades and craftsmanship of some old houses have long been obscured by signs and advertisements. Opening homestay applications is also intended to encourage owners to restore architectural features and improve the streetscape. The city government also hopes that combining accommodations with dining, cultural, and commercial activities will encourage visitors to stay longer and experience the old town's nighttime character.
